Shobhan Sarkar's aide Om Baba alias Om Awasthi was associated with the Congress party for a long time, former Congress leader Jai Narayan Sharma said.

Om Baba's real name was Om Awasthi and he had completed his education from Meerut. He was an active member of youth Congress and held the post of General Secretary of party's unit in Meerut. He was also associated with NSUI.
