UP Elections 2017: Voting started at a slow pace in the 73 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 begins on Saturday as 73 constituencies of western UP go to polls. According to political experts, the voter turnout is expected to increase in this election as compared to the last election. 2.6 crore people in its western region are likely to cast the votes in the state.

A total of 839 candidates are in the fray. Police officials said adequate security arrangements have been made for the keenly-fought contest.

“Free and fair polls is our priority and we would urge people to go out in large numbers and take part in this beautiful festival of democracy” an Election Commission official said

The major political parties in the fray are the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
