Jallikattu protesters-police try to remove them from Marina Beach

Police in Chennai who were trying to dispel the Jallikattu ban protesters were left in a lurch on Monday when the crowd chanted the Indian national anthem all together.

The crowd was gathered at Chennai's Marina Beach as they called for the lifting of ban on Jallikattu, the popular bull-taming sport. The gathered police force tried to dispel the protesters from the beach; however, they were left in a bind when the crowd started singing 'Jana gana mana' unanimously.

Routes leading to Chennai's Marina Beach have been closed and police have set up barricades to prevent people from assembling at the spot.

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday issued the ordinance to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to hold Jallikattu, which was banned by the Supreme Court in May 2014.
