NewsX: Seemandhra comes to halt, as shutdown enters fifth day

Hospitals put off surgeries, banks and factories shut down and trains were pulled back as government electricity workers continued their widespread agitation in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions on Tuesday, five days after the Union cabinet endorsed the creation of Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh.
The two restive regions—known as Seemandhra—continued to be roiled as the state government failed in initial efforts to persuade striking workers to return to work.
R.Saibaba, a leader of the Seemandhra Electricity Employees Joint Action Committee (SEEJAC) that is spearheading the stir, said representatives of 8,000 workers were to meet the managements of state-owned Transmission Corp. of Andhra Pradesh Ltd and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corp. Ltd (APGENCO) for the second time on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, large parts of the state went without power for the third consecutive day, crippling normal life.
