Over 825 pro-Gorkhaland supporters may be behind bars in Darjeeling already, but that is hardly a dampener for the chorus for separate statehood. Ruling out any division of West Bengal, a visibly perturbed Mamata Banerjee has zeroed in on a new strategy to curb the voices of dissent.
She has now played the Lepcha card and to drive home the message to agitators that Gorkhas alone cannot dictate the fate of the hills. This has sparked off a fierce political storm with her political opponents crying foul on this divide and rule strategy.
