NewsX : Documentary on Mumbai mangroves destruction by building sharks and SAHARA Group

Mangroves are among the oldest and most productive wetland forests on our planet. Found in the inter-tidal zone, they are uniquely adapted to survive highly saline and are ideal habitats for many terrestrial and marine species. They act as natural barriers against storm surges and coastal erosion. Found mainly in the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Mumbai being a coastal city was covered with mangroves but slowly the city is claiming these Guardians of our coast. By trapping silt, mangroves maintain the integrity of Mumbai's shoreline. This is a vital service to the city of Mumbai as it is very prone to erosion, having been built on reclaimed land that is battered by the sea on all three sides.
