Violence erupts after police personnel stop fireworks display in Kanyakumari temple

A temple festival turned violent in Kanyakumari after police personnel stopped a fireworks display citing safety issues when it went on beyond its permitted time. Their order to stop the show abruptly triggered a violent reaction from the devotees and a large number of youths who thronged the venue. Police resorted to lathicharge after the mob pelted stones on them, injuring five personnel.
