New Delhi: A 23-year-old student of New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) killed himself after allegedly attacking his female friend with a cleaver this morning. Akash and Roshni, 22, reportedly had an altercation at around 11 am in one of the classrooms in the campus. Both studied Korean in the school of languages in JNU.

According to the police, Akash slit his throat and consumed rat poison after attacking Roshni. He died of poisoning at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) around two hours after the incident. Roshni is reportedly in critical condition at the Safdarjung Hospital.

Along with the cleaver, a country-made revolver was also recovered by the police from the spot.

Abhishek, an eyewitness, said, "Akash was very disturbed. He had a country-made gun and threatened students. He was not allowing us to enter the classroom. But somehow we entered. He injured himself before we could do anything."
