Nirbhaya case: How many more Nirbhayas needed for laws to change, says Victim's mother

Minutes after the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to keep the juveline convict in the December 16 rape case under observation till his mental condition is assessed, the mother of the victim broke down in tears.
“ I knew this would happen, I am not surprised. All courts have given up. What’s there in having any hope? Now all the people below 18 years of age have been given a certificate to commit rape,” the victim’s mother was quoted as saying by agencies after the apex court announced its verdict. The mother urged the Supreme Court to complete appeals proceedings and award capital punishment to the convicts, adding that said she would fight till the law is changed.
