Sports Ministry wants betting to be legalised in India

NewsX: Betting is likely to be legalized in India. In the wake of the IPL fixing scandal, the sports ministry wants a thorough clean-up of sports in the country and as a first step, it wants betting legalised.
After spot-fixing rocked IPL-6, Law Minister proposed a legislation to fix 'fixing' in sports. Draft of the bill prepared by the Law Ministry is currently being examined by the Sports Ministry.
NewsX learns that Sports Ministry is of the view that a better and more practical way to check fixing in sports would be to legalise betting, as it would allow the government to regulate a business worth Rs. 300,000 crore annually.
