Karnataka: Congress CLP in Bengaluru

News X: As the Congress' erstwhile leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah steadily ups the ante in the chief ministerial stakes, there is a growing lobby within the Congress which is trying to stop him, and are backing Union minister for labour Mallikarjun Kharge.

Clear signals are likely to emerge by Friday evening provided the selection process of the new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader does not end in a deadlock.

There are enough signs that choosing the new CM is not going to be easy with a section of veteran Congressman trying to pip the chances of former deputy CM Siddaramaiah—a frontrunner for the post. They feel the best way to do this is push more aspirants into the fray and divide the votes of the CLP if the CM has to be decided through a vote.
