Will US recognition increase Modi's national acceptability?

Speak out India is a NewsX special show which debates the main news event of the day. A Visiting U.S. congressional delegation has invited the Gujarat CM Narendra Modi to the United States. This comes as a shot in the arm for Modi, who has been in the firing line of the US ever since the 2002 riots. The invite comes despite the fact that Washington has denied him a visa since 2005 because of deadly religious riots. The invitation is like a symbolic victory for Modi who is termed by many as a popular but divisive Hindu nationalist leader harbouring Prime ministerial ambitions. So, the questions we are asking are - Has Modi's international isolation come to an end? Will US recognition increase his national acceptability? Is this victory for Modi's NRI lobby? We debate this on the show and try to evolve consensus among our panelists over the issue.
