Congress to support UN resolution against Lanka

The Congress has decided to vote against Sri Lanka and support the US-sponsored UN resolution condemning atrocities against Tamils. A decision to this effect has been taken by the Congress core committee that met yesterday. P Chidambaram, AK Antony, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Ahmed Patel, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi are members of the committee. External Affairs minister Salman Khurshid was a special invitee at the meeting so that committee members could understand and take a reasonable view on the issue. Khurshid is likely to announce the Government's stand on the floor of the Lok Sabha either on Monday or Tuesday. The Minister had yesterday told the House that India was formulating its response and would get back to the House once a decision is taken.
