The advance team of US secret service has sought the closure of Central Delhi and Delhi-Agra Highway for three days during President Barack Obama's visit to India. The President will be in India from January 25-27.

The demand was made by advance team of US secret service which met Indian security officials on Friday morning.

Barack Obama is the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The team said there should be no access to Central Delhi on January 24 and 25. All government buildings in that area -- North Block, South Block, Rail Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan, etc to be sanitised by January 24.

There should no access for employees. Only security persons should be allowed and snipers to be on all buildings. The team also asked the Indian Air Force to provide air cover.

The team also demanded that all roads in India Gate area, Rafi Marg, Janpath etc to be closed for general public two days before January 26. They also want emergency exit routes in case of untoward incident.

The team asked all shops, restaurants and hotels to be shut along Delhi-Agra highway for two days as the President will be visiting Taj Mahal.

US and Indian security agencies are taking extra care for Obama as he will be on an open air platform at Rajpath for more than two hours witnessing the Republic day parade.

There is a possibility of putting up a bullet-proof shield in and around VVIP enclosure with US secret service taking up positions at vital locations, including nearby high-rise buildings.
