NewsX : Sonia to complete 15 years as Congress president on 14 March

Come March 14, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will achieve a unique distinction. She will complete 15 long uninterrupted years, of being Congress president. Sonia who took over a demoralised and fragmented Congress in 1998, restored the party's central place in the country's polity within six years. Since then the Congress has successfully led a coalition Government at the Centre and is in power in 13 states. Sonia has also put her son Rahul Gandhi firmly in the saddle with him being anointed as the party vice-president.
