Kumbh Mela: Stampede at Allahabad station; many feared dead

Several people were killed and many others critically injured when a portion of the railing of an overbridge at the Allahabad Railway station collapsed on Sunday evening. Prime Minister has announced ex-gratia relief to the families of those who lost their lives and to those injured in the Allahabad tragedy. "I send my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery," said PM. The incident occurred on platform Number 6 of the Allahabad Junction where a large crowd had gathered to board a train after taking a dip in the Sangam on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.
