Laxmikant Parsekar elected Goa's new chief minister

Ignoring the dissent of deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza , the BJP Saturday chose health minister Laxmikant Parsekar to take over as the next chief minister of Goa following the resignation of Manohar Parrikar.
"Parsekar was chosen unanimously by all BJP MLAs at the legislative party meeting and Francis D'Souza seconded the proposal . The decision was taken in complete unanimity," party's national observer Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
The swearing-in ceremony would be held later in the day. D'Souza will continue as deputy chief minister while other portfolios will be decided afterwards
Earlier there was a minor rebellion in the ranks with D'Souza claiming he had support of more than 12 legislators and had said that he wouldn't work under a junior.
D'Souza had also said that minority support to the BJP will be impacted if he was not chosen as the CM and also threatened to pull out of the government if his demand was not met.
According to the party sources, Parsekar has largest support from the MLAs and also the backing of Parrikar who is now moving to Delhi to reportedly become the next defence minister.
With 21 MLAs, the BJP has a slender majority in the 40 seat assembly in Goa and so the party too felt they neeeded a dynamic leader like Parsekar to lead the government. Parsekar has considerable administrative experience as a minister for years
The party's national observers Rajeev Pratap Rudy and BS Yeddyurappa are present at the meeting in Goa to oversee the process of transition from Parrikar to the new chief minister.
