The Cauvery water sharing row is snowballing in Tamil Nadu, hundreds of barebodied farmers with nooses around their necks have been arrested in the Trichy district of Tamil Nadu for demanding the release of river waters to save their Samba crops. The farmers were arrested when they tried to halt train services by squatting on tracks. Farmers say their crops have been withering away for lack of water. They also want the Jayalalithaa govt to give them uninterrupted power supply. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have so far failed to resolve their differences despite directions from Supreme Court to do so, apart from intervention from the Central water disputes tribunal.
