Jana Gana Mana: It's Haryana vs Punjab-Centre on row over separate SGPC
  • 5 years ago
The row over a separate SGPC in Congress-ruled Haryana on Friday grew into a full-blown battle between the state on one hand and Akali Dal-BJP ruled Punjab and the Centre on the other as Haryana refused to accept Union Home Ministry's directive to have a Bill in this regard withdrawn.

Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, has stepped in the row over the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee. The Akal Takht has asked Sikh leaders from Punjab and Haryana to call off their congregation scheduled for Sunday in Amritsar and in Karnal on Monday. Both Punjab and Haryana leaders have now called off the congregation.

Sikh leaders in Punjab had called for the congregation at Amritsar on Sunday against the Haryana SGPC, which had called a counter meet at Karnal . Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was expected to resign at the Amritsar meet.
