Airfares to Kolkata shoot up ahead of Durga Puja - NewsX

The celebrations leading up to Dassera begin on Tuesday, and as Bengalis head home for the joyful Durga Puja festivities, many will be saddened that they are being charged more than double the normal air fare. The Mumbai-Kolkata fares this season are 15-20% higher than what was charged at the same time a year ago. According to air ticket agents and industry managers, the one-way fare between Mumbai and Kolkata has shot up in the past week to between Rs9,000 and Rs15,000 from about Rs6,000.
