Beech Bahas: Why the FIR only against Sangeet Som?
Even as the Union government has sought a report from Uttar Pradesh about the Moradabad violence, an FIR has been filed against BJP MLA Sangeet Som on Sunday for allegedly provoking locals in Kanth area. Also, reports said he has been barred from entering Moradabad, with the district administration set to take action against him if he violates the order.
The case was filed on the basis of statements given by the arrested accused in the violence case.
"A report has been sought from the UP government on the entire incident. I will be in a position to say anything only after the report is received," PTI quoted Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh as saying during a programme.
Violent protests erupted on Friday after the police tried to stop some people from holding a 'mahapanchayat' in Kanth area over removal of a loudspeaker from a temple there.
A police spokesman in Lucknow said 12 officers, including District Magistrate Chandra Kant, were injured in stone pelting by the protesters.
He said a case was filed against 362 people, out which 62 were named under various section of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder.
He said 62 accused were arrested and sent to jail on Saturday.
BJP leaders, including four MPs and an MLA who was accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were detained.
Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som, Amroha MP Kunwar Singh Tanwar, Sambhal MP Satyapal Saini and Rampur MP Nepal Singh were detained, Moradabad Commissioner Shiv Shankar Singh had said.

Som faced National Security Act
Earlier, in September 2013, BJP MLA Sangeet Som, who had been arrested for alleged involvement in fake video uploading case and making provocative speeches, was booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) in the Muzaffarnagar riots case.
He was also detained under NSA by the district authorities then. Som, accused of uploading a fake video that played a role in provoking communal tension in Muzaffarnagar and making inflammatory speeches, had been arrested in Meerut on September 21.
His arrest had come a day after the Uttar Pradesh police took into custody BJP MLA Suresh Rana in Lucknow on charges of making provocative speeches to incite riots in Muzaffarnagar.
