Gadkari in soup over letter on Maharashtra irrigation project - NewsX

The shadow of the Maharashtra irrigation scam now seems to extend to the Congress as well apart from the Nationalist Congress Party and the BJP. NewsX has accessed a letter written by Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakare on the 24th of February this year to Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The letter asks for release of pending funds for the Gosikhurd project which had been stalled at that time because of certain complaints of irregularities in its implementation. It says that the project liabilities have risen to 500 crore rupees because of non-availability of central funds. Gosikhurd is the same project for which BJP President Nitin Gadkari and party spokesperson Prakash Javdekar are under fire for writing similar letters to Pawan Kumar Bansal for release of pending funds. It has been alleged that the letters have been written to favour Gadkari's associate and BJP MP Ajay Sancheti who is one of the project's contractors.
