Economic reforms season is set to take its next leap forward. After diesel and FDI, get set now to pay a heftier electricity bill. An emboldened Prime Minister is set to announce a host of power sector reforms today, directed to resuscitate the ailing sector. Sources say the Prime Minister will put his foot down against hidden subsidies in the sector and its being dubbed as an overhaul to come. Sources say there's massive rationalization of power tariffs to come, with the consumer, industry and the farmer to be hit. Expect also an expanded role for the private sector, and an effort to make the switchover from generation to distribution a seamless process. Also likely is a renewed focus on nuclear power and coal power generation, and moves to fast track pending projects.
