Mumbai: Ganesh mahotsava begins, heavy security at pandals - NewsX

Today is Ganesh Chaturthi, that marks the beginning of 10-day long Ganeshotsav festivities across Maharashtra. Heavy security arrangements are in place at elaborate Lord Ganesha pandals in Mumbai, with 19,000 policemen deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incident during the event. Special security arrangements have been made for 'Lalbaugcha Raja' Ganesh idol, one of the most popular mandals attracting around one crore devotees, including filmstars and politicians. Metal detectors and CCTV cameras have been installed at major crowd points. 12 bomb squads have been deployed for the festival.
