At least 38 workers died and more than 70 were injured when a series of powerful explosions ripped through a large unit in Sivakasi, the capital of the fireworks industry on Wednesday. Officials quoted doctors here as saying that 35 bodies had been recovered from the site of the blasts at Om Shakthi Fireworks Ltd. Four workers died in hospitals in Madurai, 85km away. Many died in the blaze that spread after the blasts. Several of the survivors were in a critical condition.
