India's gargantuan voting exercise is now 80 per cent over. Eight of the 10 phases have been concluded successfully, albeit with the dash of drama and occasional chaos that is par for the course in all endeavours Indian. It has almost been a month since the first phase on April 7, when voters in some constituencies in Northeast India cast their votes.
The results will come in less than two weeks. Anticipation and expectations are high on all sides. Despite all efforts by BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to make these elections a direct contest between himself and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in the end, local factors continued to play a dominant role in state after state.
