It was welcome relief for residents of the capital, as pre-monsoon showers brought much needed respite from the sweltering heat wave across North India. There were light showers reported from various parts of the capital, along with moderate showers in parts of Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Monsoon is expected to advance further in northern parts of the country, in the next two to three days. The Indian Meteorological Department has conceded that rains have been deficient so far, but expressed hope that showers will make up for the deficiency in the coming days. Heavy showers also lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Dharamshala and Manali leading to a sharp fall in temperature across the state.
