Late shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan's family has refused to become a proposer for Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi in Varanasi. Bismillah Khan's son Zamin Hussain Bismillah has said that he wants to keep the family away from politics.

He said that some BJP functionaries had suggested that they should be a proposer for Modi when he files the nomination from Varanasi on April 24. He said that he consulted the family and everyone agreed that they should not back one or the other candidate.

"We are voters. My father has never done this, so how can we do it now? We are artists and I want to become like my father. We want to stay away from politics," Zamin said.
