J&K: Panchayat members quit after terrorist threats - NewsX

At a time when the Jammu and Kashmir government announced devolution of powers to panchayats, over a dozen elected rural body members, including women, on Friday resigned from their posts. They published their non-affiliation with political parties in local Urdu newspapers of the Valley. Locals say that posters of a militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were seen in villages of Pulwama and Shopian districts of South Kashmir this week, warning elected rural body members to resign within a week's time or face consequences. The posters were reportedly pasted on electricity poles, walls of mosques and shops in public places.
