Farmer suicides on rise in Maharashtra - NewsX

Farmer suicides return to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Three farmers, including a woman, committed suicide on Friday alone. Five farmers have died in last one week. What one of the deceased Gajanan Ghotekar wrote in his suicide note has come as a blow to the ruling NCP-Congress combine in the state. The farmer pleaded with the people to not to vote for the alliance, terming them farmers' enemy. That has created ripples in the ruling combine at a time when the assembly is in session. As expected, the opposition has seized the opportunity. Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana that a case of abetting suicide should be filed against the state govt.
