India News : In his presidential speech on the eve of Independence Day, Pranab Mukherjee touched on a number of key issues influencing the fate of the nation, from valuing democratic means of individual rights and responsibilities, to collective concerns of securing territorial integrity and moving forward towards a future that will be balanced and based on eliminating disproportionate emphasis on some while ignoring the others.

Invoking India's ancient status as a centre of learning and culture, the President said that the country could not hope to be a major world power without the founding of a truly world-class university that would not only impart technical and skill-oriented education, but also build confidence and ability for the formation of a great state that combines humane policies, sound infrastructure and legal protection to its citizens.
