India's image dented after Rushdie controversy
  • 5 years ago
In the face of the huge political furore over Salman Rushdie's attendance at the Jaipur literary festival the noted author cancelled his participation in person. International papers have been crying shame over the way the author's voice has been muffled and the way the administration did not back him or his right to freedom of expression in the face of the radicals' ire.But support for Rushdie came from his own circle .The organisers of the Jaipur Literature Festival stopped novelist Hari Kunzru from reading excerpts from Rushdie's " The Satanic Verses", saying they could face police action. The radicals of course have been rejoicing at the way they got their way without much effort. There has been no action against them for issuing threats to Rushdie over the visit. For More Log on to -- http://alpha.newsx.com
