India news: Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi inaugurate rail link in Jammu & Kashmir

India News: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate a new train service between Qazigund in Kashmir and Banihal in the Jammu region today.

The prestigious rail link, which includes the longest rail tunnel in India, has been constructed at a cost of 1,800 crore rupees.

The train will have eight coaches train and will run from from Banihal to Baramulla with effect from Thursday making five trips daily. This Qazigund-Banihal rail section also includes a 11-km-long tunnel, will reduce the distance by road from 35 km to 18 km.
