Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, while addressing his nation on Independence Day, declared that Kashmir was Pakistan's "jugular vein". Gilani said the international community has accepted the right of self-determination of Kashmiris and that Pakistan will continue to provide unhindered moral, diplomatic and political support to them.
Interestingly, in the same speech Prime Minister Gilani lauded Pakistan-China friendship and termed it as being 'higher than the Himalayas' and deeper than the seas.
