Karnataka Polls: Exit polls hand over Karnataka to Congress
  • 5 years ago
India News: Three exit polls have predicted that Congress is likely to emerge winner in Karnataka, with the ruling BJP heading for a massive defeat. The survey, conducted by psephology firms C Voter, Today's Chanakya and CNN IBN-The Week, said Congress would get a simple majority and would not require any support from other parties in forming the government in the state.

The C Voter survey estimates that Congress is likely to get 114 seats and BJP just 55 seats (in 2008 BJP had won 110 seats). JD(S), which was expected to improve its tally and give serious competition to BJP for a second place, has been given 34 seats. The BS Yeddyurappa-led Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP), which was the main spoiler as far as BJP was concerned, is expected to get around 11 seats. Despite only a 2% vote swing in favour of Congress, the seat tally has been influenced by KJP cutting into BJP votes in several parts of the state. The swing in favour of KJP is expected to be a massive 7%.
