Russian TV Lists Potential
US Nuclear Targets On Sunday, the Russian newscaster
Dmitry Kiselyov displayed a map of the
United States and identified several potential targets. Targets on the list include the Pentagon,
Fort Richie, a military training base, and
Jim Creek, a naval base in Washington state. The show went on to describe a Russian
hypersonic missile that would be capable
of striking in less than five minutes. Tension has been rising between the United States and Russia since president Vladimir Putin’s
state-of-the-nation address. Putin warned of an attack on the U.S.
in his annual address. He threatened to respond promptly if
the U.S. deployed missiles into Europe. This tension comes amid the unraveling of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty. The treaty banned ground-launched missiles
and had been in place between the two countries since the Cold War era. The U.S. has dismissed these Russian threats
as propaganda, and claims to have no immediate plans to deploy missiles in Europe.
