These Two States Have
Been Hit Hardest by the
Opioid Crisis From 1999 to 2016, the death rate from opioids increased dramatically in
more than half of the country. According to gathered data, it doubled every two years. They add that over this 18-year period, the rate only fell in Montana and Oregon. The states that experienced the
biggest increase were New Hampshire
and West Virginia. Results also show that the Eastern part of the U.S. has been affected more
than the West, particularly the Northeast. The report goes on to explain that the opioid crisis has also evolved. Researchers say it began with prescription painkillers and then moved on to heroin and synthetic opioids.
