A types of mammoth tortoise thought to have been wiped out for over a century has been found in the Galapagos Islands.

The grown-up female Fernandina Goliath Tortoise was found by individuals from the Galapagos National Park and the US NGO Galapagos Conservancy.

An individual from the animal categories had not been spotted since 1906 and were considered to have vanished.

The gathering was supposedly completing an undertaking on the island of Fernandina in the western Ecuadorian area of the Galapagos Islands.
