Trump Boasts About 52% Approval Rating Despite '93%' Bad Press

President Trump on Sunday boasted about his approval rating.

President Trump has boasted about his "record" high approval rating among Republicans given all the "really bad" press he receives.
"52% Approval Rating, 93% in Republican Party ( a record )! Pretty amazing considering that 93% (also) of my press is REALLY BAD. The 'people' are SMART!" he tweeted Sunday.
Trump was referring to a daily tracking poll by conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports which recently showed that his approval rating reached 52 percent, a near-record high for him.
The president has cited the figure multiple times. During a Rose Garden press conference Friday to announce a national emergency declaration over the border wall, Trump said: "So the crazy thing is, I just had, as you know, Rasmussen — 52 percent in the polls. It's my highest poll number. And people get what we're doing. They get it. They really get it. And I'm honored by it."
And he had told a crowd in El Paso earlier in the week: "A new poll just came out today, Rasmussen, one of the most respected polls, one of the polls that got the election right, so I have to remember that. You know what the number is? Fifty-two percent — with no good news!"
"Explain that! How do you get that when you don't get good press? I guess 93 percent of the stories are negative. No matter what we do, [they] figure out a way to make it negative," Trump further remarked.
In fact, the Washington Post has pointed out that "Rasmussen's poll numbers...are consistently substantially friendlier to Trump than are other poll numbers."
The statistics site FiveThirtyEight places the president's current aggregate approval rating at 41.8 percent, with 53.7 percent disapproving.
