Islamic State defeat 'imminent,' says SDF commander

A commander of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces says the remnants of the so-called Islamic State are on the brink of total defeat.
Speaking in a press conference Saturday near the front line in the village of Baghouz, SDF battle commander Jiya Furat... said the last of the militants are cornered in an area of just 700 square meters.
In the next few days, he said, the SDF will announce Islamic State's destruction.
The militants do, however, have thousands of civilians trapped with them as human shields.
The SDF have said, therefore, that they're moving cautiously and trying to free those prisoners.
