Hillary Clinton Jabs Trump On Late-Term Abortion: 'Lying About This Is Dangerous'

Hillary Clinton has slammed President Trump over his late-term abortion claims.
She referenced a New York Times piece criticizing the president's characterization of the procedure and wrote in a tweet on Tuesday: "Only about 1% of abortions happen later in pregnancy—almost always because a woman's health or life is at risk, or the pregnancy is no longer viable. Lying about this is dangerous, and a slap in the face to families who face heartbreaking situations."
Trump had brought up the topic during his 2019 State of the Union address.
"To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother's womb," Trump said.
He had prefaced that comment by saying: "There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days. Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments from birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and their dreams with the world. And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth."
The Times piece disputes parts of Trump's argument.
"Contrary to Mr. Trump's claim, late-term abortions do not allow 'a baby to be ripped from the mother's womb moments before birth,'" writer Pam Belluck notes.
According to the Washington Post, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers show "91 percent of abortions take place at 13 weeks of gestation or earlier, and only 1.3 percent are performed after 21 weeks of gestation."
