US Job Openings
Hit a Record 7.3 Million The Labor Department
reports a 2.4% jump in
December job openings. Job openings continue
to outnumber the unemployed. Such a surge indicates that
companies expect to need
more employees to meet demand. Lower paying jobs with the
biggest increases include positions
in the restaurant, hotel and
healthcare industries. Higher paying jobs in the
field of architecture and
engineering reported
the biggest increases. The data also showed a
December hiring boost
with a steady number
of people who quit. Hourly pay is up slightly,
with wage increases at
a modest 3.3% as compared
to the expected 4%.
