'Agreement in Principle' Has
Been Reached by Lawmakers Negotiators have agreed to a plan
that will allow $1.3 billion for barriers
along the U.S.-Mexico border. According to Fox News
sources, the funds
would be allotted for
new construction, According to Rep. Nita Lowey,
the proposed plan could be
released by Wednesday. Sen. Richard Shelby "thinks" and
"hopes" the deal will be sufficient
for President Trump to approve. The agreement would need to be
pushed through by both houses of Congress
and signed by the president by 11:59 p.m. Friday. Otherwise, the second partial
government shutdown of the
year will commence. Trump has continually requested $5.7 billion for a
border wall and mentioned the possibility of declaring
a national emergency if those funds aren't received. Trump spoke at a rally in El Paso, Texas,
Monday night where he told supporters that lawmakers
were making progress to avoid another shutdown.
