Weaving bamboo into QR codes

QR codes are usually computer generated, but one Chinese craftsman is weaving them from bamboo strips. Bamboo weaver Xie Shiyang needs about three hours to create one of the code blocks. The idea of weaving the centuries-old skill with modern technology came up as part of a programme to develop creative cultural products for rural revitalisation. Developed in Japan in the 1990s, QR codes are now widely used in China and are critical for a consumer payment systems using mobile devices.
