After War: Afghanistan

Fragment of the first chapter of the documentary series After the War.

Afghanistan is a tomb of empires. First they were invaded by the British, then by the Soviets and finally by the Americans, but none of these powers succeeded in subjugating them. 17 years after the last military intervention, led by the government of Washington, we returned to see the consequences. It is the poorest and most illiterate country in Asia, with increasingly deep sectarian divisions, and a large market of insurgent groups that offer protection and sustenance. The Taliban are regaining ground and already control almost half of the country. A territory that is also disputed by what remains of Al Qaeda and an emerging Daesh. A war of all against all that, in 17 years, has left more than 50,000 dead.
