“Again Pyeongchang,” the official ceremony celebrating the first anniversary of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, kicked off at the main Olympic stadium in Pyeongchang city on Saturday.

Under the slogan “Passion. Peace & Prosperity”, the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies last year was once again lit up with LED lights, symbolizing the historic place as a center for peace.

Cultural events and performances including Pungmul , a type of traditional Korean music, set the mood.

During the dove performance, people showed their hopes for 'Peace and Prosperity' on the Korean Peninsula by throwing some 700 dove balloons into the air.

"After the ceremony, the grand festival continued in PyeongChang 2018’s co-host city Gangneung. The Ice Arena where figure skating and speed skating events were held welcomed thousands of visitors celebrating the special day."

A huge concert with K-pop stars such as NCT 127 and MOMOLAND as well as winter sports stars like Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na added to the festive mood, entertaining thousands of locals and foreign visitors.

To celebrate PyeongChang 2018's first anniversary, cultural events will not only take place in major cities across South Korea but also in Lausanne, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany.
