Chinese authorities give all clear for blood plasma treatment suspected of HIV contamination

There has been yet another medical scandal in China... this time involving thousands of blood plasma treatments suspected of being contaminated with HIV.
Oh Soo-young reports.
Chinese authorities say a batch of blood plasma treatments feared to have been tainted with HIV,... has tested negative for the virus which causes AIDS.
Health authorities clarified the result on Thursday,... saying that further tests on a batch of antibody treatments has found them free of HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Suspicions arose on Tuesday, when Beijing's health commission sent out a statement to hospitals,... that a batch of plasma products,... was suspected to be tainted with HIV,... after a provisional authority said it had tested positive.
Local media have reported that the faulty batch includes more than 12-thousand bottles of plasma,... which are due to expire in two years' time.
As the products had been distributed nationwide,... medical institutions across China were asked to stop using them during the probe.
So far, there have been no reports of patients who have been affected by the allegedly contaminated treatments.
And on Wednesday, after the warning was initially issued,... authorities tried to reassure the public that the batch has been recalled,... production stopped,... and that further tests for HIV came up negative.
However, observers say, the scandal has dealt another blow to public faith in China's health services, following a series of medical scandals.
