May pushes for legally binding changes to Brexit deal in Brussels
  • 5 years ago
British Prime Minister Theresa May says she has held "robust but constructive" talks with EU officials,... on breaking the deadlock on a Brexit deal.
This came after the PM visited Brussels on Wednesday to discuss changes to the agreement on the UK's divorce from the regional bloc,... mainly regarding the Irish backstop,... after the initial deal was voted down by parliament last month.
They have been calling for "alternative arrangements" to avoid a hard Irish border,... while Brussels has refused to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement.
According to British media, May has pushed for legally-binding changes,... which EU officials have so far resisted.
European Commission President Donald Tusk later tweeted his meeting with May had seen no "breakthrough" but that talks would continue.
