"We must reject the politics of revenge", says Trump in State of the Union address

President Donald Trump urged lawmakers to work together and "reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution" in the first few minutes of his State of Union address.

Urging bipartisanship, Trump said "together, we can break decades of political stalemate, we can bridge old divisions, heal old wounds, build new coalitions."

And he urged members of Congress to "choose greatness."

Trump is expected to seek bipartisan support in his speech for his bid to build a wall on the border with Mexico as the deadline to avert another government shutdown draws near.
