1 Lord Shani is a male deity in the Puranas, who is represented as a dark figure adorned in black clothes and carried by a vulture (or crow).
2 He is believed to be the son of Lord Surya who rules the planet Saturn.
3 In Vedic astrology, Shani is identified as Saturn which is the slowest moving Graha (planet) who generally takes two and a half years in each Rashi.
4 Shani Graha is the most feared amongst all the deities since he is the most malefic and powerful planet after Mangal.
5 Followers visit Shani temples to seek blessing of Lord Shani and light ghee lamps in front of the idol.
